Repairs to the organ
June 2008
| The first phase of repair and restoration was completed early in 2007. The tab units (below) were all replaced. This has improved the reliability of stop selection. |

What happens next
.... When we have sufficient funds, the plan is to replace more of the electronic components in the console, using modern solid-state switching. This should make the instrument more reliable, with less need for maintenance in the longer term. Most of the mechanism up in the organ loft is in quite good condition. This has survived in various forms since the organ was originally built in Soho, Birmingham, in 1886: (the instrument is much older than the church building). The organ has 3 keyboards and 33 stops, with a good mixture of stops which are easy on the ear, for accompanying, and a limited number of solo stops. |
Any contributions to the fund for repair work will be welcomed by the Hon Treasurer. Please make cheques payable to St Peter's Church Hall Green, and enclose a note saying you wish the donation to go to the Organ Fund. Send to: Hon Treasurer, c/o St Peter's Vicarage, 33 Paradise Lane, Hall Green, Birmingham B28 0DY. |
