Music at St Peter's
John Sireshuk has recently been appointed as Director of Music, and this webpage will be updated with developments since then, hopefully in the near future.

If
you join us at our Sunday services (particularly at the main service at 10.00
am) we hope you will be struck by two things. Firstly, the congregation
always takes a full part in the singing, whether in making a loud and joyful
noise in the hymns, or in the quieter music used in more meditative parts of the
service. Secondly, the singing is led in a number of different ways. There is a traditional, four-part choir which sings an anthem each week during Communion. On occasions, the services may be accompanied by other groups, such as the Amicus band (based around keyboard, bass and drums), or an ad hoc small orchestra of 6-10 players. For routine accompaniment, the church has a three-manual pipe organ and a grand piano. Read the June 2008 update on the organ! |

| Young Musicians | |
| We particularly try to encourage younger musicians. Instrumental players take part from time to time in accompanying hymns or anthem. One of these instrumentalists is also learning the organ, and accompanies on a routine basis. From time to time young performers have presented musical settings of bible stories. | |
| Special Occasions | |
| Carol services are held at
Advent and Christmas, and special music is prepared for other occasions, such as
Harvest, Christingle, and the services during Easter week. |
|
| You are welcome ... | |
| We try to use musical settings which enable the congregation to join in with the shortest possible "learning curve". The choir is a friendly group which is always open to new members. Help is available for those who are not familiar with music notation (especially if you have a computer and can make use of midi files). The choir meets on Thursday evenings, and sings an anthem on three Sundays each month. | |
